Former representative Chris Shays is with us hi Chris Shays. Polonia hero that's good morning good morning thanks for being here sorry to tell us so why is it different this time. The first step. Let me say this to you I have a vested interest. If Donald Trump gets elected to be present my leg will be impossible to live with for the next. Well that. But it probably reach you're not you yourself I mean we've got OK all I hope for him there worried about their wives that's who I've heard from a couple. I am I knew that I it's stated a while ago there was no way could vote for Donald Trump you know I just consider him the demagogue I consider him. Trying to appeal to a mob mentality I don't see him really talking about issues and that's that's the way other than attacking different. Different groups. Huey you know you that would that this civil war going on in our country when Republicans took over in the late nineties it was difficult for Democrats to adjust to being in. In the minority. It so that he had that confidence and then Republicans decided we would go after. Bill Clinton. We go after and on impeachment and we ordered that we were the party of ideas that became the party of hate the clintons. And that seems to be our our primary obsession. It's about you know you don't want Hillary Clinton well I began to fail I sure didn't want. I sure didn't want Donald Trump. And then I took a second look at Hillary Clinton at but I worked there and that in the house and she was in the senate. She was a pleasure to work which he wasn't partisan. She talked about ideas. She was as frankly you know it just that. Of the day I think forward and and effective member of the senate which it was First Lady we work with it there and she was. Very easy to work with. I think she's gonna bring Republicans and Democrats back together again something that hasn't happened in a lot of times I don't. It just so hard and I think that because at the ugliness they hatred that's out there in you know all that a lot of people really really hate her. Oh but you don't then you wonder are they just taking on someone who just because. You know any any any idea that he called of the devil and he said you know you're either filled with hate. You say that's that's a demagogue this issue that they usually attacks somewhat on the very things they are most skilled via. But when you're president she has the opportunity to set the tone. And and I truly believe that she is going to be reaching out to both sides. And she's gonna draw a few Republicans and they are gonna say oh my goodness you know we can work with this person we can work with this president I think she'll gain momentum that. I've said that I can't I cannot find a way to vote for either or trump war or Hillary Clinton. And you know I'm looking at a a Pew Research Center study here this is from last month so who knows what the numbers are. This morning but this is the month old it says 57% of voters are frustrated. And 55% are disgusted. By both campaigns. So I mean is this your voting for Hillary they hold in your nose kind of a thing or have you see. And I and it's not holding my nose I mean. Who I think she's made some really serious mistake. I defined it this way I think she has a shaky moral compass and I haven't they supporters and there can go means that it. But Donald Trump has no moral compass. And so from me I'm going to a shaky as supposed to know and but I'm also glad it was someone who has tremendous knowledge. Tremendous experience I think she's learned from from a number of her mistakes. So I and and she's thoughtful and she does her homework. What I would say about your party because I'm gonna guess he's still consider yourself a Republican. I. Are heard you know they say there's going to be question about whether and why they didn't have the courage to disavow him when they cut. Well that's true. Why didn't people had the courage to do that because. You know he played two. People frustrations. Without solutions keep business solutions team. He's talking about their frustration that my Condit I don't want him to win and then. Dictated in an influenced by people like Ann Coulter Sean Hannity Rush Limbaugh I as those of the people that will. Begin to define this republic it's. I can't be Republican under those they're definition. So you know the alternative it's going to be he loses. And who knows what's gonna happen it may be the Republican Party is going is gonna split and divide. I mean I can't predict that but what the outcome will be but I know if he's president I wouldn't want to be part of that Republican Party and. So what do you think is going to happen. Disarray. I think that and she went I think she went through the electoral process more than just the the popular vote I mean I think the popular vote will be fairly close. I think if she's elected that she will surprise people because she was drawn both Republicans and Democrats. And I think over time that we'll have a very positive impact over. How we think let me just one reason people are frustrated Republicans. If they elected a Republican majority in the house but it only takes one senator in the senate to kill the legislation. I have to colleague of mine who got elected. From the house the senate had to be like Venus said he said these are his words. I love it I can kill anything. So it's just that's it's not there. Two other speaker of the house and the Republicans for all the stuff that they have gone to the set it it doesn't get through the senate and frankly it's not even fair. To this to the Republican majority leader in the senate could he needs sixty votes to get anything done right. Right yet and I think that even know and when this is all said and done RA if if indeed she does win. I still think that people need to look that people are disgusted and people are upset with the process and the lesson should be moving forward for both parties. That it really doesn't do our country good. To stand on the east side to sides and never try to work together. Well I mean he says and I'd I'd I'd totally buy into it I mean that's. I watched the conventions they convention of the republic and I ate it first I didn't go to Republican conventioneers I just didn't work either. It was Michael lynch mob locker up blocker out. He has Chrissie. Say guilty as charged we have Donald Trump saying he's elected he wants the prosecutor. You have a you know independent press. Do that Israel is outrageous is that not just noted. That's scary no it's truly scary and then I listened to the Democratic Convention. And and you had people talking about reaching out and being inclusive. And you know that was the messages more appealing to me. It about it it's an appealing message but don't you think yeah I mean isn't the American voting public or just the American public at large to build big doses cynical at at this point don't like. All right we're here and what do you know they want the I don't blame them. But I don't blame him because when President Obama got elected. You had this sense that he would reach out any truly didn't teach established. You know with all due respect what I call the Chicago mafia. Who. That it's kind of be at the center of his operation in the White House team and they want to reach out kinda group. Is this. Christopher Shays thanks for being with us today former Republican in you I gag issue I am content before I got a congressman. Former Republican I suffer like 21 years that you are supporting Hillary Clinton but you're staying with the party at this point right. I I want all my fellow Republicans to win hundred Hillary Clinton. Programs that you're for the down ballot candidates you're just not for the top deals data -- I thank you guys.
